about us

Hello and Welcome to Walnuts and Rice
As you can see, we create luxury letterpress card collections that make beauty, simplicity and goodness the center of attention. Inspired by the extraordinary simplicity found in the everyday and a wish to pause moments in time, we began creating cards that are more than just cards. A Walnuts and Rice card is a little vignette about life, your life, and the things and people that matter most to you.

Extraordinary Simplicity
A bouquet of fresh-cut flowers bursting with bloom, tender figs and olives, a birthday cake with mounds of thick frosting, a signature box filled with decadent chocolates. Each exceptional in its own way.

If only there were a card that was equally special… something simple, elegant, saying just enough, but not too much, effortless to write, an individual expression, just the right complement to a gift, or special enough to give on its own. The unending quest for the perfect card… it was with these thoughts that Walnuts and Rice came to be.

The Beginnings
It happened one spring day. The farmers market – with its vibrant sights, sounds, scents, tastes and textures – inspired our designer, offering an opportunity to catch the beauty, simplicity and goodness of the world around her. So through intuition and collaboration, the collections of Walnuts and Rice were born, with the first one, fittingly, drawn directly from the farmers market.

Our designer began working with a wonderfully accomplished food photographer and masterful food stylist. She partnered with a clever writer from Los Angeles, as well as multiple culinary artists to design and bake the mouth-watering sweets. Everything needed to be exquisite, yet simple. Refined to the purest detail. We know we have done things right when our cards stir your senses and you just have to have them.

Every collection is a delightful story. Composed of individual cards that present a variety of sentiments for both the everyday and the extraordinary. We hope they bring you an imaginative approach to selecting the perfect card.

Setting Up Shop
Ensuring the utmost quality and perfecting the smallest detail in our work is critical to us. So how better than to set up our own print shop? Of course we did not start small; we had to have the best, making us the proud owners of two Heidelberg Windmill presses weighing 2,850 pounds a piece.

We are ever thankful to the International Printing Museum for letting us move into a corner of their space, uncrate our fabulous cast iron presses and began making our first impressions.

Our Biggest Support
We could never have created such an exquisite line of cards without the support of our now good friends.
